4 Ways NYC Tutors use to Evaluate Learning Disabilities

NYC Tutors

NYC TutorsStudents seem to receive the blame in case of poor performance in their class. As a parent, such performance can be heartbreaking and stressful. Maybe the student is not lazy but is just missing important concepts that are affecting his performance in tests. According to NYC Tutors, such scenario depicted above shows that the affected student is experiencing a learning disability and therefore it is necessary to have the same evaluated. Earlier the diagnosis, the better chances to rectify the same. Experts usually conduct this evaluation from fields like audiology, psychology, education, language, and speech. There are techniques available to counter any learning-related disability but will be effective once diagnosed correctly. There are four ways used to evaluate learning disability as shown below:

Intelligence Test: This is widely known as IQ test and the commonly used approach to determining the learning disability affecting the learner. It involves tests like Differential Abilities Scales (DAS) and Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC). Findings originating from this test help to point out the areas of weaknesses and strengths in the affected student. Such information assists the school administrations, and tutors develop an effective intervention to poor performing students.

Achievement Tests: Tests like the Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT) is used here. They focus on writing, reading, and mathematics. The tests point out the cause of lagging behind the learner in these areas and calls for remedial sessions, involving NYC tutors and any necessary approach that will help the student catch up with the rest of the class work.

Visual Motor Integration Tests: This is an additional test that is only incorporated to support the other evaluations carried out in determining the learning disability. Tests here help to determine other factors away from class setting that will affect the learner. It focuses on how the child integrates the motor and visual skills in his brains to actual work. If it is difficult in integrating the two, there is a need for specialized support to help him or her cope the same in a usual manner.

Language Tests: These are the basic tests that examine how the child understand both written and spoken languages, and how they verbally respond to asked questions or cues after a thorough interpretation. It is because you can listen clearly and even repeat what is said but you can comprehend the same.

In conclusion, these tests should be done several times and interchangeably before concluding on the disability. That is why it is important to visit qualified evaluators who are likely to incorporate them for a correct diagnosis.
